PIERLUIGI COLLINA TESTIMONIAL OF THE NEW LILT FOR MEN AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
Until December 1st, LILT associations and clinics organize visits and informational meetings dedicated to the prevention of male genital cancer diseases
Florence, November 27, 2024. November is the month dedicated to the prevention of male cancers, a valuable opportunity to shine a spotlight on a topic of fundamental importance for public health. In this context, LILT – Italian League for the Fight against Cancer – launches the new LILT for MEN awareness campaign with the slogan Do it for your health, featuring an exceptional testimonial: Pierluigi Collina. An international icon of football and a symbol of sporting integrity, Collina takes on the role of LILT ambassador for male cancer prevention, embodying the strong link between sport and health.
He raises his arm and whistles with determination, as he has done many times in his refereeing career. But this warning from Pierluigi Collina has a completely different meaning: it is a warning for all men who postpone urological checks not to repeat the "incorrect" behavior, but rather to take action to prevent male cancers.
A gesture made with an unusual blue card, just like the campaign for the month of November, and equipped with a ribbon, a symbol of many health battles.
«The blue card, with the small ribbon typical of health initiatives, - comments Collina - is to "warn" men about how important prevention is and to carry out periodic checks that could allow the identification of any pathologies at an early stage and therefore more easily solvable. I believe that sport has the duty to help awareness campaigns like the one carried out by LILT and I am very happy to be able to offer my contribution».
The face of Pierluigi Collina and the blue card will enter thirty Serie C NOW stadiums during the 17th day of the Championship.
On the field, the referee will hand the blue card to the team captains who will display it to the team and the public, while the stadium speaker will explain the meaning of the prevention gesture promoted by the campaign and the pitch-side LEDs will show the dedicated graphics.
Through this campaign, LILT aims to spread a clear message: prevention is not an occasional act, but a constant commitment, closely linked to healthy and conscious lifestyles.
«Statistics unfortunately show that men, compared to women, tend to neglect their health, delaying preventive checks that could make a difference with the early diagnosis of many oncological diseases» says the national President of LILT, Francesco Schittulli. «With campaigns like LILT for Men, we intend not only to promote the importance of prevention but also to generate a cultural change. Sport, represented by such a prestigious and respected figure as Pierluigi Collina, becomes the ideal vehicle to convey this message, especially among the younger ones».
Until December 1st, throughout Italy, LILT territorial associations will carry out numerous initiatives dedicated to male cancer prevention, including organized visits, training meetings, and the distribution of an illustrative brochure essential for educating and informing about specific cancers that exclusively affect men.
Do it for your health is not just a slogan, but a concrete invitation to engage in prevention, to take care of oneself, and to break down cultural prejudices that often keep men away from medical check-ups.
