At the "Centenary Stadium" Catania Women shines: the first international away match of the new Etna football course goes on file with a victory, at the expense of the Under 19 Maltese women's national team. The only goal of the match arrives 13' after the second half; on the developments of a corner kick taken by Virginia Basilotta, Caruana rejected Anna Zappalà's header but could do nothing on Beatrice Vitale's tap-in. “It was a unique experience - explains the forward - and we are grateful to the club for giving us this opportunity. I felt great emotion for the goal but I want to underline that the merit of the victory belongs to the whole team, in the defensive phase my teammates were perfect".
Coach Peppe Scuto observes: “The approach was excellent, aggression and attention allowed us to express ourselves well up to the goal. Through the difficulties experienced especially in the final part of the match, the girls have also enriched themselves today in terms of interpretation and tactical management. Among the opponents I have seen many valuable young players, we know that the Maltese movement is in a phase of growth. We are happy for this prestigious affirmation and grateful to our club”. Massimiliano Borbone, head of the women's department, adds: "The dialogue with President Vassallo, the Maltese managers and technicians was very fruitful and interesting: we discussed methods, structures, perspectives and training programs in the youth field. The cordial welcome was the icing on the cake, we appreciated the style, availability and quality”.
